AudioCiteSM, a Web-based service for indexing and searching audio to uncover evidence hidden in audio recordings, was developed by Aspen Systems Corp. to assist the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in its investigation of Enron. The AudioCiteSM software takes the sounds that create a spoken word, indexes them and looks for matches. Much like the results of a Google or Yahoo! search, the hits come back in order of probability. The program's phonetic-based search increases both the speed and the accuracy of the results (70 to 80 percent accurate). By comparison, speech-to-text software solutions fall short on accuracy (20 to 30 percent) because their dictionaries need to be pre-programmed with the speaker' s actual speech patterns, dialect and inflections to be effective.
